Guidance on keeping your HORSED pieces looking their finest for years to come
General Care Principles
HORSED garments are crafted from the finest natural and technical materials. With proper care, each piece will last decades and develop a beautiful patina that tells your unique story. Always check the care label inside each garment before cleaning.
When in doubt, entrust your HORSED pieces to a professional dry cleaner experienced with luxury equestrian wear.
Leather Care
Cleaning
Wipe leather surfaces with a barely damp, soft cloth. Never submerge in water or use household cleaners.
Conditioning
Apply a leather conditioner every 3–6 months to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking. Use a conditioner appropriate to the leather type.
Drying
If leather becomes wet, allow it to dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Stuff boots with newspaper to maintain shape.
Storage
Store leather items in breathable dust bags, away from direct sunlight and humidity. Use cedar shoe trees in boots.
Technical Fabric Care
Washing
Machine wash technical riding wear at 30°C on a gentle cycle. Use a specialist technical fabric detergent — avoid fabric softeners, which degrade moisture-wicking properties.
Drying
Hang to dry naturally. Do not tumble dry competition jackets or breeches — heat damages stretch fibres and seam tape.
Ironing
Iron on a low setting if required, using a pressing cloth between the iron and garment. Never iron directly on embroidered crests or badges.
Dry Cleaning
Tailored competition jackets should be dry cleaned only. Inform your dry cleaner of any embellishments.
Wool & Natural Fibres
Wool items should be hand washed in cool water with a wool-safe detergent, or dry cleaned. Never wring wool — gently press out excess water and reshape while damp. Dry flat on a clean towel away from heat sources.
Store woollen items folded (never hung) in a cool, dry place. Use cedar blocks or lavender sachets to deter moths.
Long-Term Storage
Before storing items for longer periods, ensure they are clean and completely dry. Store in breathable garment bags — never plastic — in a cool, dark, well-ventilated space. Avoid attics and basements where temperature and humidity fluctuate significantly.
Bring items out of storage periodically to air them and check for any signs of mildew or damage.
